The modern Italian flag is known as the 'tricolore'.

It is three vertical stripes: the first one is green (verde in Italian), the middle one is white (bianco), and the last one is red (rosso).

The design was created in 1797 and went through many transformations. In 1948, Italians decided on the modern design that you see in the picture above.
